Mrs. Jennie Mae Hesler, 77 years old, a former resident of Veedersburg died in her sleep late Saturday afternoon at Culver Hospital, Crawforsville. She had been in failing health 8 years and seriously ill at the hospital since July 28, 1941 when she suffered a fractured hip in a fall at her home, 222 W. Main St, Crawfordsville. Although gravely ill since becoming a patient at the hospital almost 12 months ago, Mrs. Hesler had been a patient suferer. Her chief concern during this period was for the welfare of her family and her friends, which was characteristic of her long life. She became critically ill July 7 but notwithstanding she had retained consciousness most of the time and had talked with members of her family only a few hours before her death. Born April 27, 1865 at Waynetown, Mrs Hesler was the daughter of Alva and Emma Booe Sumner, pioneer Indiana residents. Her girlhood was spent at Waynetown where she attended public schools and was graduated from the Waynetown Seminary. She moved with her parents to Veedersburg and on Dec 6, 1885 was married to Lincoln Hesler, a Fountain County attorney and residence was established at Veedersburg. The Hesler family resided in the house formerly occupied by Harry Glascock and the site on which Bert Boggs now lives. Mr. Hesler built the Hesler block in which the Veedersburg State Bank is located and had his law firm in the building. The family moved to Crawfordsville in April 1903 where Mrs. Hesler had resided continuously since. Mrs. Hesler was a member of Eastern Star, Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Flower Lovers Club. She had been especially ative in the affiliated organizations of the church and the Flower Lovers Club to which she was greatly devoted. Besides the two sons, Russell (Link) Hesler of C'ville Journal-Review and Herbert S. Hesler, president of Oriental Brick Corp those who survive are a granddaughter, Mrs. John Girard of Champaign, Ill; two grandsons, Phil and Jack Hesler and two nephews, Fern Sumner of C'ville and Arnette Sumner of Richmond. Her husband who for several years was a prominent attorney in C'ville died Nov 3, 1918 while the two sons were in service in WWI. Also preceding her in death were 3 brothers, Mark, Will and AC Summer. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday at Hunt & Son with Rev. Paul Million pastor of First Christ Church officating. Burial in the family plot at Oak Hill Cemetery. - kbz
